What you don't know about the state you
live in may surprise you. When comparing our state to other
states in the country, Tennessee ranks near the bottom in many categories. For example, Tennessee is 42nd in personal income,
2nd in personal bankruptcies, and 46th in the overall health of its residents. The real tragedy is that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Tennessee ranks
43rd in the
United States in graduation rates. Overall graduation rates
for Tennessee schools are only 60%. I will give every child in Tennessee a
$3,500 voucher in order to attend the private or religious
school of their choice. Real reform is needed in Tennessee and vouchers provide this reform.

The last five years have seen the largest migration of people into the United States in history, over 7.9 million people.
In Tennessee, we have an immigrant population of 264,000, up from 110,000 in 2000 which is an increase of 140%.
This is the largest increase of any state. Of the 264,000 immigrants living here, between 100,000 to 150,000 are believed to be here illegally.

According to the Tennessee
Hospital Association, hospitals lost over one billion
dollars in 2004 due to reductions in TennCare revenue,
charity care, and bad debt.
Proposed TennCare
reforms will further reduce revenues to hospitals by 428
million dollars in 2006. We
cannot afford to let our hospitals go out of business due to
poor government policy. more

Tennessee ranks 4th in
the nation in violent crime. Of those released from prison,
50% or more are back in prison within three years. I am against probation or parole of violent and habitual offenders. These criminals should serve their full sentences and not be released back into society where they prey on other people.
