I believe in the conservative values similar to Ronald Reagan and also hope to replicate the successes of Mayor Giuliani of New York, especially in the area of crime prevention. Mayor Giuliani transformed New York from a crime ridden city to a safe city by using the theory of “Broken Windows”.
As an example
the murder rate dropped 89% in Central Harlem and 81% in
Hunts Point.
I have witnessed first hand the needs of Tennesseans and the inability of our state to provide help for those that need it the most. The money that is wasted by our government could help many people who are doing without. I would end the policy of Departments spending all of a budget in order to be eligible to receive the same amount in the next year. This costs taxpayers untold millions of dollars needlessly. I have also witnessed how inefficient our state government is run as well. We need to restructure the way our government runs in order to make it more efficient.
As a small business owner I have seen first hand how the policies of our State
affects workers and their families. Our policy of inviting illegals to our State (giving 230,000 drivers licenses and certificates to illegals) has cost who knows how many Tennesseans their jobs and lowered others incomes.
Education is vital to a society if it is going to thrive and Tennessee has failed in this area. We have an education system that is out of date but our politicians either do not understand this or do not care. One example is the Pre-K plan being touted as the next best way to save education (since all the extra money we gave them did not apparently help). No where that Pre-K has been tried has it improved performance past the third grade. Georgia has wasted over one billion dollars on their Pre-K plan since 1993 and their graduation rates are lower than ours (56% vs. 60%). I send my children to a private school and I believe that everyone should be able to do the same with my voucher program. Every where vouchers have been tried they have improved student and public school performance. In fact, they have drastically lowered the drop out rates in Milwaukee.
Removing 167,000 people from Tenncare is not fixing the healthcare problem. What it does accomplish is that it will bankrupt the hospitals due to the uninsured using emergency rooms when they become sick. There are many innovative ideas on how to fix our health care system and I discuss them on this site.
Tennessee is ranked fourth in violent crime. I have been in homes that were built like jails because the people who lived there were afraid and had every right to be. As a victim of multiple property crimes myself (auto theft), the state’s policy of “catch and release” for criminals, especially juveniles, is unbelievable to say the least. Spending $100,000 per bed prison facilities is also not the solution to fixing the crime problem in Tennessee. We need to give Judges more options in order to lower crime. I also discuss these options on this
web site.
I see Tennessee as it should be: a leader in business, having a world class educational system, health coverage for its citizens and a low crime rate. I believe that with your help we can transform this state into the leader it should be.
Thank you for your support.
